The multiple international
award-winner and cultural icon, Akumaa Mama Zimbi, known in private life as Dr
Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, has once again been selected as a final nominee in
the category of 'International Humanitarian of the Year' award organised by the
UK-based international organisation 'Women4Africa'.
She recently received the
'Twitter with a Purpose Award' by Pisen GhanaTwitter Awards 2016, and was adjudged the 6th Most Influential TV and Radio
Presenter on social media in 2015 by the Ghana Social Media Rankings.
Akumaa Mama Zimbi, who is a Ghanaianwomen's rights leader, television and radio talk show host, actress,
philanthropist, sex educator, relationship expert and marriage counsellor, is
also the host of Ghana's number one and most consistent radio and television
talk show on marriage, love and sex called 'Odo Ahomaso' on Adom 106.3 FM and
AdomTV.
She is also the founder and executive
director of Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF), a non-governmental organisation which
seeks to empower and support widows through its Widows Alliance Network (WANE)
project, and also involve in the issues of adolescents.
Through WANE, over 400 widow
groupings have been formed in Ghana, with membership swelling to over 8,000
nationwide.
Mama Zimbi has also revealed that the
annual National Widows Alliance Conference (NAWAC-2016) will bring together
over 3,000 widows from across Ghana under one roof to foster strength and a
sense of purpose on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Ghana International TradeFair Centre, La in Accra.
The conference, according to Mama
Zimbi, continues to serve as the ideal dialogue platform for the advocacy of a
comprehensive policy and legal direction for elevating the standards of widows
in Ghana.
The theme for NAWAC-2016 is
'Empowering Women for the Future'. It is also to celebrate the United Nations
International Widows Day.
