Ghana has recorded a total of 55 deaths caused by rabies virus last year as against 34 recorded in 2015.
This year, the Central Region has already recorded one death last month with fear of a possible outbreak of the disease

Zika virus strain was imported from the Americas to Africa

The Zika virus strain responsible for the outbreaks in Brazil has been detected in Africa for the first time, the World Health Organization says.
The WHO said it was concerned that the latest strain was spreading and was "on the doorstep of Africa".
It is currently circulating in Cape Verde, an archipelago off the North West coast of Africa.

Dr Antobre Boateng, the Deputy Eastern Regional Health Director in-charge of Public Health, has expressed worry that some Ghanaians still take malaria for granted.
Speaking on the occasion of the World Malaria Day durbar organised by the Regional Health Directorate at Sekesua in the Upper Manya Krobo District, the Deputy Health Director said malaria is as deadly as AIDS and Ebola.

Accra food vendors score high in hygiene in latest FAO survey

A survey by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has scored food vendors in Accra high on hygiene, although it raised grave concerns about food handling that requires attention.
According to the study, most of the vendors did not undergo medical screening, nor attended training courses on food hygiene and safety, or have a valid food handling certificate.

Reports from Spy News Agency indicates that most of all producers of long grain rice in China are resorting to the production of rice granules from the illegal use plastic thus mixing the said plastic rice with natural rice for commercial exportation to African countries including Ghana.
