Dancehall artiste Samini has thrown a
challenge to actor John Dumelo for one-on-one debate on political issues.
Samini believes that since they both
are nursing presidential ambitions; the debate will be a perfect platform for
people to assess their political wits.
The dancehall artiste is eying
Ghana’s highest seat in 2028 while John Dumelo hopes to run for the presidency
in 20 years’ time.
Samini, born Emmanuel Andrews Samini,
threw the challenge to the actor while promoting his latest album ‘Breaking
News’ in an interview on Metro TV.
He said, “John Dumelo has also been
in the news for presidential bids and politics lately. In the last quarter till
now he's been in the news over politics and I really would look forward to have
him on a debate as a contender in another party.”
The ‘Iskoki’ singer was confident of
winning the debate. “I think the two of us will make an interesting debate as
presidential aspirants. But I am very sure I will win that debate though. Haha.
John Dumelo, if you are watching, I challenge you to join me for a presidential
debate.”
John Dumelo, who has been in the news
for openly campaigning for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and
also flirting with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), is yet to respond
to Samini’s challenge.
But before the actor could even
respond to the challenge, rapper Edem has offered to moderate the debate should
he agree.
Edem tweeted that, “I will be the
moderator for @samini_dagaati n @johndumelo1 Debate... Interesting times for
Freedom of Speech and Association”.
