Stop signing site plans of clients without visiting sites – Lands Minister

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon Nii Osah Mills has cautioned surveyors in the Ghana to desist from signing site plans of clients and collecting fees from them without visiting those sites to ascertain the true situation of those lands.
According to the Minister, such practice does not promote efficient and effective land use management.
Nii Osah Mills was speaking at the 2016 Annual Seminar of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors- Land Surveying Division in Accra yesterday.
It was on the theme “Geospatial Policy of Ghana; A strategic tool for National Development".
The Minister advised surveyors in the country to be abreast with the Land Use Bill which was recently passed by Parliament and will soon become a law after it has been signed by the President to promote land administration in the country.
Nii Osah Mills also urged surveyors to support the government with their knowledge and skills to enhance the land administration process.
The President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Surveyor Emmanuel Tetteh Martey appealed to the government to reduce or exempt import tax on survey and mapping instruments and equipment to help promote the work of surveyors.
He said the current 40% import duty on survey instruments is the highest in the subregion.
The La Mantse Nii Kpobi Tettey Tsuru who was the special guest of honour advised surveyors to maintain a high level of integrity and professionalism and flash out the bad ones amongst them to promote the services of surveyors.
Surveyor Daniel Odotei Brown Chairman of the Planning Committee of the GhIS 2016 seminar advised the public on engaging the services of surveyors.
