Astute Ghanaian movie director, Mr Fiifi Garben
has stated that the enemies of the Ghanaian movie industry are not far fetched
and that the movie players are enemies of themselves.
In an
interview with Entertainment Chart Show on ILife FM with Mr Latus, he said he
does not understand why there are divisions in the industry making part calling
themselves English actors and others as Twi actors, a situation he thinks
should not cause a division in the industry.
Mr Garben
however said the division has made some local producers bringing in Nigerian actors which should not be the case.
"I
think sometimes, we're our own enemies. Because at first there wasn't any
division in the industry like English and Twi. I remember some years ago, Van Vicker, Nadia, Jackie Appiah, etc came and shot movies in Kumasi. Those times
when Maame Dokono, David Dontor, and others were in active acting, there wasn’t
any division. But at a point in time some people including the media started
bringing the divisions as to Twi and English. However some of us are trying to
let people understand that we are one people and that language should not
separate us. This made the Twi producers to bring in Nigerian actors. You can
talk about Patience Ozorkor, Mr Ibu, Aki and Pawpaw etc. We should not forget
that by this, we are rather promoting Nigerian actors. I will advise that we
should all be united and work for Ghana."
His
reaction follows a recent public lash on some actors tagged to be 'English
actors' for joining the Kumasi movies popularly known as Kumawood.
A section
of the movie lovers have called their turn to the Twi movies as those actors
being 'broke and fading out'.
