The men were to plead with the
Commander, DSP Emmanuel Basintali, to forgive the footballer for assaulting him
and one of his investigators last Tuesday evening after his wife, Richlove Paintsil, had reported a case of stealing against him.
Information gathered indicated that in
a remorseful mood, Paintsil claimed it would not happen again.
It was not the first time the couple
had had a marital row that had gotten into the public domain. The footballer
had previously assaulted his wife in their Trassacco home in Accra.
His plea came after he had been granted
police enquiry bail Wednesday evening, having spent a night in police custody.
The former Fulham star allegedly
assaulted the East Legon District Police Commander and one Detective Sergeant Williams Gyamase on Tuesday.
A source at the East Legon Police Station hinted DAILY GUIDE that the police had since charged Paintsil with
assault.
“The case has since been booked for
court but the court could not sit as a result of the recent strike action by
the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana,” the source said.
As part of the bail conditions, two
persons stood in as sureties for the ace footballer and he is to report at the
station daily until the case is called in court.
After being freed, John Paintsil, the
following day, mobilised high profile personalities to the station to apologise to the district commander for his reported unruly behaviour.
On the theft charge levelled against
him, the source said the regional police command had taken over the case for
investigations.
The commander, who developed a swollen
face, thus affecting his right eye, was sent to the police hospital that
Tuesday evening for medical attention.
His subordinate, Sergeant Gyamase, who
was also kicked onto the floor like a football, was taken to the hospital for
medical attention after he also complained of body ache.
Information gathered indicated that the
senior police officer infuriated John Paintsil after ordering him to return the
car in question.
Reports gathered by the paper indicated
that Paintsil’s wife, Richlove Paintsil, parked her GMC 4X4 vehicle in the
house Sunday evening and went out but upon her return, she realised that the
vehicle had been taken away and immediately reported the matter.
Detective Sergeant Gyamase, the
investigator in the case, visited the house and realised that the person who
took the vehicle also broke into the woman’s house and took away documents
covering the vehicle, together with the spare keys.
