Leicester tried to sign Musa in January and had
a bid turned down by CSKA. Appearing on Russian sports channel Match TV,
Slutsky said they have returned with a new offer for the Nigeria international,
thought to be in the region of £23m.
“The British club offered a bit less than €30m
[£22.86m],” he said.
“A few days ago, Musa approached me and asked:
‘When is he [Claudio Ranieri] back from holiday?’ I told him: ‘I am not
Ranieri, I do not know’”.
“I do not know for sure [if Leicester have
resumed negotiations] because these negotiations are dealt with by management,
but I think the probability is very high.”
If the deal pulls through, it will make him
Nigeria’s most expensive player, eclipsing the $17 million (about £14 million
then) PSG paid Fenerbahçe in 1998 to bring the Nigeria player to Paris.
Leicester surprisingly won the English Premier League title in May, after missing relegation by the whiskers, only a year ago.
