A police office has been banished from Tarkwa Dompim in the
Western Region for allegedly stealing roofing sheets meant for developmental
projects in the town.
Chief Inspector Addai has been ordered
by the Traditional authority to leave the town with immediate effect for
insulting the chiefs and elders after he was confronted concerning the
whereabouts of the lost roofing sheets.
Secretary of the Dompim Pepesa Traditional Area, Ameshi Awisi in an interview on Adom News said, the roofing
sheets were purchased purposely for the renovation of the community centre.
He noted that, when it was due for
the renovation to commence; they realized that eight packets of the
roofing sheets had vanished from the store room located behind the Chief
inspector’s office.
“We purposely stored the roofing sheets
to enable us renovate the community centre but all of a sudden the roofing
sheets started vanishing from the store room" he stated.
Mr. Ameshi Awisi said a complaint was
lodged at the police station followed by an announcement in the town and it was
revealed that, Chief Inspector Addai ordered some men to use the roofing
sheets for his personal building project.
“We made several announcement in the
town and finally two men came to the palace to report that they were ordered by
one inspector to use the roofing sheets to build his house” he said.
He said the men were handed over to the
police after confessing to the act where they are being investigated.
“We were at the police station with the
men when the inspector came to the police station and started shouting and
insulting the police officers for accusing him and arresting his men. He even
insulted the chiefs which we saw it as very disrespectful” he noted.
However, the police officer, Ameshi
Awisi said was arrested and disgraced publicly for committing such crime.
He added that, the Chief and his elders
have lodged a complaint at the District Police Command to have Chief Inspector
Addai removed from the area, as they cannot guarantee his safety if he should
continue to stay in the town.
