Macheda warns Rashford to stay grounded

Marcus Rashford
Former Manchester United forward Federico Macheda has warned the club’s latest striking sensation Marcus Rashford to not “grow a big head.”
Macheda was thrust into the limelight as a 17-year-old in April 2009 when he came off the bench late on for his first two appearances as a United player, and scored in both games against AstonVilla and Sunderland.

Rashford’s arrival has also been spectacular as the 18-year-old was named in the starting line-up for both of his opening two United appearances — and he scored two apiece in each game, against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal.
Despite Macheda’s early promise, he is currently playing in the Championship for Cardiff City and told The Sun: “Marcus needs to continue working hard, don’t grow a big head, don’t read or listen to all the hype and be lucky with injuries.
“The kid has got a great chance to play more than I had, so he must stay as calm and hungry as he is now. United will look after him — so everything is stacked in his favour.”
The Italian striker received plenty of attention after his exploits, despite then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s best efforts to shield him. Current United manager Van Gaal is also trying to keep Rashford grounded and is warning the media to give him some space.
Macheda, now 24, remembers his own experience and thinks Rashford will be enjoying what is happening around him now.
He added: “Sir Alex met my parents because he wanted me protected and to take things in the right direction. He wanted to make sure I’d continue working hard and not let any hype have a bad influence on me.

“After I scored those goals, when I went out I had people stopping me and giving me attention. I didn’t expect it. It was actually fun because it’s nice when people like what you’ve done and show their appreciation. I’m sure Marcus will be enjoying the positive attention he’s getting.”
