Thousands of supporters loyal to
the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the Port Harcourt internationalairport to welcome Dr Dakuku Peterside, their gubernatorial candidate, after
the Supreme Court judgment confirming the election that
brought Governor Nyesom
Wike to power in Rivers state.
The APC and its
gubernatorial candidate in the last election had contested the election of
Governor Wike, stating that it was not free and fair.
The case had been taken to court and although Wike, a
former minister of state for education, lost in the Appeal Courts, the
country’s apex court said the election was valid, thereby confirming his
victory in last year’s governorship polls in Rivers.
Wike has since gone on a motor parade to acknowledge his
supporters who stood by him during the trying period. This was also replicated
by the opposition as they thronged out in their hundreds to welcome Peterside
after his defeat at the court.
