The New
Patriotic Party (NPP) 2016 flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the
barrier to Ghana’s prosperity is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government
headed by President John Mahama.
He explained Ghana’s shrinking economy is evidence
pointing to
one fact that the President is a specialist in killing businesses.
The NPP leader was speaking in the Ashanti regional capital,
Kumasi, where a conference was organised to focus political attention in Zongo
communities where economically disadvantaged Muslim families live.
Pitching camp at the conference was the Vice-Presidential
candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Minority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu,
former NPP Chairman Peter Mac Manu, and former General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu
Afriyie.
A depleted national executives committee was present following the
suspension of three of members.
The Zongo community usually an electoral card for the NDC is seen
as a strategic voting block for the NPP.
‘I need your help’, Nana Addo, the two-time challenger entering
into his third electoral match with the NDC appealed to the Zongos. He asked
them to take a good look at John Mahama’s record and vote him out.
Explaining this record, the NPP leader said shop owners and SMEs
have now tagged President John Mahama as a ‘killer of businesses’ because of
the many that have collapsed under his watch.
He repeated a judge’s description that a judgement debt scandal
that hit government in 2011 showed evidence of a deliberate plan inside
government, to ‘create loot and share’.
The description has since become a mantra for the opposition
against government.
Under his leadership, Nana Addo promised that this mantra will be
replaced by honesty, work hard and prosperity.
The Mahama government, he said, is aware of an impending defeat
and has therefore resorted to ‘lies, blatant fabrications, propaganda and
tribal politics’.
Nana Addo suggested he speaks the minds of many when he says
‘Ghana’s hope is the NPP’.
